Certified Collection Center Basics

Certified Collection Centers (CCC) are locations that have agreed to accept used motor oil from Do-It-Yourself oil changers. Having a CCC nearby is an easy and convenient way for people to recycle their oil, some of which might otherwise find its way into our soil and water, causing damage to the environment and human health. CalRecycle Certified Collection Centers may be automotive repair shops and service centers, auto parts stores, or auto dealerships.

Sites are eligible to become CCCs so long as they are willing to accept used oil from the public at no cost during regular business hours and post a CalRecycle sign to inform the public of their participation as a CCC. Certified locations are eligible to receive $0.16 per gallon of used oil generated by their site and $0.40 per gallon of used oil collected from the DIYer public through the CalRecycle Incentive Program.

The certified site must also be willing, when requested, to pay any patron $0.40 per gallon that brings in oil for recycling. If your location would like more information on how to become a certified collection center or would like to apply, visit the CCC resource page here

If you already participate as a Certified Collection Center and would like new signs free of charge, call (916) 341-6690 to place an order or fill out the request form here

Be sure to contact local authorities to report illegal dumping. Request more information from your CalRecycle representative if you believe you are eligible for the Contaminated Oil Reimbursement Program.
